Apply Today

What Is It?

The Technical Assistance Program (TAP) is a financial incentive program offering commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family residential customers in Los Angeles up to $2,000,000 for the installation of pre-approved equipment and products, which demonstrate water savings. Project must reduce potable water use by a minimum of 50,000 gallons over two years.

This joint effort between the LADWP and you, our customer, will help modernize your facility with the latest water-efficient equipment, save you money, and conserve our most precious natural resource.

Examples of Pre-Approved Projects

Cooling Towers

Very often, the highest water using equipment in a commercial or industrial facility is the cooling tower. Cooling tower water efficiency upgrades are the most common custom water conservation project that LADWP customers perform. Customers increase the water efficiency of their cooling towers by upgrading their water treatment. Customers may upgrade their treatment by going to a monitored standard treatment program, a pH control program, or a water-softening treatment program. In most cases, the LADWP provides free meters to measure the water savings your cooling tower project will garner.

Recycling

There are a variety of microfiltration systems available in the market. Using these types of systems may allow you to reuse some of your wastewater from your facility.  Note: you will be responsible to secure approval for your wastewater project from the proper authorities (California Department of Health Services, for instance).

Recirculation

Some of the wastewater in your facility may not need to be filtered before reuse. An example of this would be the waste stream from a Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) system. If the R.O. water is pre-softened, you may be able to reuse the R.O. waste water as make-up for your cooling towers. Check with your water treatment company before starting this type of project.

Equipment

These types of projects are upgrades for existing industrial equipment. An industrial launderer may install a tunnel washer to replace a number of less water-efficient clothes washers. A dye house may replace an existing dye machine with a more water-efficient one.
