Project Description

The Valley-Rinaldi Tower and Transmission Line Upgrade will replace 14 circuit miles of transmission line, portions of which were first installed in 1952 and 1956. The project will also raise 12 transmission towers in the Valley Rinaldi Corridor that runs along an LADWP power line easement in the San Fernando Valley.

There are three phases of construction that will increase the capacity of the transmission lines from 495 megawatts to 1,100 megawatts. Phase I of this project was completed on August 27, 2017. This construction raised the height of 10 transmission towers by 25’ each. Phase 2 construction began on November 15, 2018 and was completed in June 2019.

Phase 3 is scheduled to begin in December 2021 and is expected to be completed in March of 2022.

Construction Schedule

Phase I: May 2017- August 2017  
Phase II: November 2018 - June 2019  
Phase III: December 2021 - March 2022

Construction Hours

All construction work is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Sunday. Construction to raise towers will be done on the weekends. Construction near freeway crossings may require overnight weekend work.

Traffic Information

Lane closures may occur on an as needed basis and result in minor traffic and parking impacts along the project route. Check this page regularly for updates.
